About

chirp.syxyz.net is a collection of thoughts, ruminations, exigencies, factoids, ephemera, bullet points, DIY guides, handy kitchen hints, un-original clip art, snarky poetry, spiritual upchuck, friviolity, chicken-soup-for-your-inner-nerd, and other assorted chuff. In short, it’s a Web Log, a term which has been shortened through the process of etymological slurring into perhaps one of the most annoying and ugliest words in the English language, “blog“, which maybe would be a better word for a weird glowing lump of gelatinous material, perhaps left by a visiting alien in your yard when he emptied the flying saucer’s waste holding tanks.

At any rate, your humble and honored host today is one Samuel Beam.  This grand and dignified name was given to me by my parents, when I was born, in the best half of the 1970s, in Delaware, which as you know is the First State, holding this and no other particular distinction, and whereupon I was trained in the arts of wearing plaid pants and large collars, and catching garter snakes. Time then passed, and as of now, I live in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which is truly one of the finest towns between Maine and Boston. By day, I am a self-employed web programmer and system administrator, who works from various locations such as my home office, my shared office, coffee shops, beach huts, city parks, railway stations, airport lounges, commuter ferries, motorcycle sidecars, and even cubicle farms when necessary. By night, usually I sleep.

Unbelievably, I am also the father not one but two lovely daughters, who continue to push new boundaries of heart-melting charm, prodigal creativity, and near-spooky levels of intelligence each day. Even more irreconcilably lucky, I am husband to the smartest, funniest, strongest, most talented and effortlessly elegant woman in this general area*.

* area here being defined as the entire neighborhood of the Milky Way and neighboring galactic clusters spanning whatever relativistic timespan you are capable of conceiving of.
